OVERSIZED: Mixing Vintage with Comfort

OVERSIZED: Mixing Vintage with Comfort

Oversized clothing options used to be reserved for comfy days at home, but over recent years, (or maybe it’s because of my age!) oversized pieces have found their way into mainstream fashion, opening up a whole new choice of comfort mixed with style. With the many oversized cardigans, shirts, baggy trousers and flowy dresses, this trend not only allows for a more relaxed and laid-back look but also challenges the notion that style must come at the expense of comfort – yay!

However, when considering vintage - with sizes being two sizes smaller in the past (a size 12 dress from the 70s is now a size 8!), the vintage world of women’s fashion isn’t necessarily your first thought when it comes to oversized options. But with a bit of imagination, not only can we get fabulous, oversized options, but also a sustainable ones. Oversized clothing has transcended gender norms, challenging the idea that certain styles are exclusively for men or women. The androgynous nature of oversized fashion has led to a more inclusive and fluid approach to clothing. This especially helps the vintage arena where we can now borrow from traditionally masculine clothing, like oversized blazers, shirts or jackets. Our images below show two different menswear pieces used for the oversized look, the first a Ralph Lauren denim shirt and secondly a beautiful vintage Givenchy checked sport's jacket.

Another appealing aspect of oversized clothing is its versatility. A simple oversized denim shirt can be paired with leggings for a casual day out or tucked into high-waisted trousers for a more polished look. Layering oversized pieces can add depth and dimension to an outfit, making it suitable for both relaxed and sophisticated settings. The ability to mix and match oversized items allows for endless creativity in personal style.

So, whether you're lounging at home or stepping out into the world, remember that embracing the oversized trend is not just about what you wear but about how you feel – comfortable, empowered, and authentically you.
